What screams 'luxury' like a private island?
We would all love to have our own little slice of paradise, and though is a pipe dream for many, some of the world's best known superstars and business giants have managed to acquire their own private island getaways.
Here are some of Plentific's favourite private islands owned by global celebrities.
The billionaire owner of Virgin claims he first visited Neckar Island to impress a girl, his future wife Joan Templeman. Of course, this was back when Branson wasn't quite as wealthy as he is now. Although his initial offer of $100,000 was turned down, he was later able to buy the island for $180,000 on the condition that he build a resort there.
This beautiful paradise is, rather appropriately, located in the Virgin Islands. Branson went through with his side of the bargain, and the island now features an exclusive and extremely luxurious resort, offering sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a myriad of activities.
Branson of himself calls the island his "home and favourite hideaway" on the resort's website. He married Joan Templemen there in 1989.
The Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands star might have been knocked off his spot as Hollywood's highest paid actor, but there's no sign of lessening luxury for the loveable loon.
Visitors can spot a beautiful gazebo on one of the island's pristine white beaches. The island, in fact, has six beaches, named after Depp's children as well as his former partner, Vanessa Paradis. The island's houses, ideally positioned next to a private lagoon, are solar powered.
"I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful," Depp said to Vanity Fair in 2009, five years after buying the island. "You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom."
While we all get jealous of celebrities who are able to afford their own islands, Schumacher's case really takes the case. The racing legend was in fact gifted the island by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai as a retirement present!
It is one of 300 man made islands off Dubai's coast that were created as part of 'The World', a project by Al Nakheel Properties. As well as a stunning house, Schumacher's gift (worth over $7m) also features a beautiful beach and a well kept private garden.
Puerto Rican pretty boy Ricky Martin bought this private island for $8m in 2008, soon after the birth of his twin sons. It is located in the stunning Angra dos Reis archipelago, a favourite hotspot for superstars seeking to sun themselves.
Even the name of the island is hush-hush, but with pristine beaches, a charming dock, private villa and deep sapphire oceans for yachting, it's safe to assume that the island has all Martin needs for living la video loca!
Another billionaire to make the list, Roman Abramovich's bought his island home in St Barts for a whopping $90m. One of the world's richest men, Abramovich hosts an annual new years party here, which in the past has hosted the likes of Rupert Murdoch and Prince.
Abramovich's £49m mansion includes a number of tennis courts, swimming pools and many other luxury amenities. The billionaire's slice of paradise offers more than enough crystal clear ocean to enjoy his fleet of private yachts including the Eclipse, a ship so large and luxurious it easily could have made this list itself!
