About Us

form:form architects is a talented Shropshire based design studio established in 2014 to provide inspirational architecture for commercial and private clients throughout the UK.

The practice draws on the impressive portfolio experience of its director Steven Hayward who has held key positions in nationally and internationally respected practices prior to establishing form:form. With experience in a variety of sectors from commercial developments, high quality residential works, retail and leisure outlets, hospitals, education, restaurants

and bars, the arts and community projects.

The work of the practice is underpinned by a strong conviction in the creative design process, not by a desire to specialise in any single sector. Our strength lies in our ability to apply a systematic design process regardless of programme or location. We apply an inclusive and collaborative approach fostering creative dialogue with clients, consultant teams, contractors and end users, as well as an active exchange between the disciplines of architecture, art, design, and urbanism.

Central to our philosophy is that design is generated by the needs of people, regardless of size or scale of the design opportunity. We actively encourage our client involvement so that we may fully understand the key considerations for every project, and to consider sustainability, environmental issues and using natural, healthy materials where possible. Our experience is far reaching and our philosophy is successfully applied to projects large and small. We are not just considered for our design flair but also for our problem solving, feasibility studies, project reviews, management skills in protecting client interests/investments, maximising space and use and all with high quality build-ability design. We aspire to making extraordinary buildings and spaces, even from the most difficult of design briefs.

We work closely with a group ofthe country’s leading consultants to ensure projects are protected by the best organisations and people available. This team of consultants includes structural engineers, project managers, planning supervisors, planning consultants, service engineers, landscaping architects, acoustic and traffic consultants as well as other specialist teams, in doing this we achieve the very best architecture and design for our clients.

residential

We work in all areas of the residential sector, from small scale extensions and refurbishments of £50,000 and upwards, to bespoke houses and also multiple unit schemes. We are often involved with very challenging and sensitive designs and site contexts, whether it be designing an extension to a listed building or creating an iconic one-off contemporary design for a new build or multiple-unit scheme.

We believe in engaging with the client from the outset to ensure that the aspirations and economic necessities of the design brief combine with innovation and technical expertise to deliver unique places to live. This philosophy applies equally to large and small bespoke houses for individual clients, multiple homes for developers and social housing providers and alterations to existing residential buildings.

One-off houses; our design strategy is holistic and mindful of the small details, fittings and finishes from the very outline stage. We work closely with the clients and local authorities is generating a clear vision to be carried through on site. High

quality does not necessitate a high cost. With clever detailing and carefully selected key fittings and finishes in critical areas, we are able to achieve bespoke dwellings and one off houses to suit all budgets and environments.

Multiple units; designing for a diverse range of housing environments from small scale, contemporary, private dwellings to large scale apartment units and master planning schemes.

Our approach accommodates both the site as a whole with an overview to layouts, materials and landscaping requirements in conjunction with specialist input where necessary, right down to the detailing and specification of each individual dwelling.

Our design strategy seeks to encompass a sense of place whilst enhancing local distinctiveness with consideration of existing development. Open space, landscaping and visual amenity are also key considerations in all contexts and it is also these spaces that further enable a distinctive identity and community cohesion.

Conversions; we enjoy the challenges of ensuring existing buildings are protected and reused in a way that does not detract from the qualities of the original building. We encourage clients to use existing buildings as often as possible for cost and environmental reasons. The skill and art of allowing an existing building to flourish in the way that it was originally intended and to enhance and not degrade its origins is our design philosophy. Extensions to historic buildings or simply new additions adjacent to historic areas are treated with the greatest of care and respect.

form:form architects designs and delivers high quality contemporary architecture throughout Shropshire and the UK. Each

commission is unique; whether a new-build, a whole-scale remodel of an existing house, or a need to simply extend.

Our professional service is both personable and flexible -we are able to offer evening and weekend consultations and can convey our designs through drawings, models and visualisations to ensure the design dialogue is understood. From the initial consultation through to the completion on site it should be an exciting and enjoyable experience.
