Hanson Architects' design philosophy has always been to keep things simple, we like flexibility, contrast and transience, we strive to create poetic spaces, we continually refine elements of a design. We use a simple pallet of materials that are sympathetic and appropriate to a location, we try to avoid fashion. We constantly strive to find new ways to use natural daylight to illuminate space from above and from the side. Our approach to sustainable design is low-tech and unfussy, we concentrate on maximising insulation, orientate the design with respect to the sun, use natural ventillation where possible and re-use materials wherever practical.
We have a deep respect for, and knowledge of, architectural history but are not slaves to it.
